Suggested Plants for Terrace Garden
Annuals and Biennials – Aster, Balsam, Marigold, Zinnias, Iceland, Lobelia, Cosmos
Perennials – Perennials are good for gracing of deck or terrace. Some of the popular and fast growing perennials are Agapanthus, Bergenia, Bleeding Heart
Flowering Plants – Begonia, Chrysanthemum, hibiscus, etc
Bulbs – Daffodils, Iris, Lily, Tulip, Snowflake, Dahlia, Canna
Vines – Vines cover cracked walls and unappealing areas of the terrace and create a cascading effect. They also screen walls and fences. For these reasons vines are popular in terrace gardens also. Some popular vines are – Boston ivy, Star Jasmine, Trumpet, and Wisteria.
Shrubs – Shrubs add style to the garden landscape. Some of the easy growing shrubs are – Camellia, Photinia, Albelia, Lilac, Mock Orange, Juniper, etc
Lawn – Lawn is a major element in designing a terrace garden, like any other garden landscape. It adds greenery to the garden and adds aesthetic value to the garden. Four types of grasses are generally used for growing a lawn on terrace – Hariyali (grows vigorously and spreads uniformly), Blue Grass(soft texture with bluish tint), Crab Grass (good spreading characteristics), Dichondra (has tiny circular leaves and spreads uniformly).

Aesthetics – More than anything else terrace gardens add beauty to the concrete jungle in cities.
Production of Agricultural Elements – terrace gardens can also be used to grow vegetables and fruits that can be used in kitchen and can be a healthy alternative to buying vegetables from the market.
