Dangerous Gardening Stats

Lets face it, gardening can be dangerous, if you are not careful. According to the infographic below, released by Lawn Master based on data by The Royal Society for The Prevention of Accidents, as much as 300,000 people are injured in their gardens every year, serious enough to be admitted to hospital. Interestingly, only about 29% of these injuries happen while completing gardening jobs.

Here are some tips on avoiding such accidents

  • Unplug all electrical appliances when you are not using them or when you are away from them.
  • Never put your foot, or your hand, under a lawnmower to clean grass or other debris on the blades, even when the lawnmower is not running.
  • Put all your garden tools like shears, secateurs which have sharp edges beyond the reach of children, preferably on the top shelve of your cupboard or where ever your keep your tools.
  • Do not let rakes, or spades standing against the wall just like that. Put it away in their proper place. Someone might trip over them cause serious injury to themselves.
  • Always use gloves while working in the garden.
  • Don’t leave electrical extension or wires lying around in your garden. Someone may get electrocuted because of your carelessness.
  • Be careful not to get poisoned from poisonous weeds like poison ivy.
