Mosquitoes are such a big problem these days!! They are not only a nuisance when around but are very harmful for the healthy too by bringing all sort of diseases with their stink. When you are a gardener and you have your beautiful garden around, it sure does attract a lot of insects too. And mosquitoes are the most irritating ones among them. Now to stop this blood-sucking monster entering our lives, let’s look at the fantastic list of plants and herbs which can be grown easily and will keep these pests far far away!
Marigolds are such beautiful and eye-pleasing flowers that everyone wants to have them in their garden. They bring that amazing orangish yellow brightness in your garden which fills your heart with happiness. The good news is that, positioning marigolds near the entrance of your home as well as the common area infested by mosquitoes will keep them away and would not let me cross the barrier.
A stunning fresh smell that peppermint plants have makes everyone’s mood. But that is not the case with the bugs thankfully! Most bugs loathe the smell of peppermint hence would never come anywhere near them. Planting a lot of peppermint around your home and in the garden would let you have a peaceful stay without being bugged by the bugs.
Lavenders are those eye-pleasing gorgeous purple flowering plants with an amazing calming smell that you would always want to be around them. Who knew that they are natural mosquito repellent and can keep those tiny invaders away from our homes and maintain our calmness throughout? The pleasant aroma of lavender is hated by the mosquitoes and other bugs. Planting them in the garden would act as a strong repellent.
Rosemary leaves are generally used to flavour dishes but they can be an outstanding mosquito repellent too. It is best when you gather around some fire and toss some of it in it. The smell would be all around and the bugs will be all away. It can be grown in a pot indoors or outdoors in the garden too. The cutting or the full plants, both of them act as an excellent repellent.
This multipurpose plant would not only protect you from mosquitoes but you will always have a delicious fresh herb on your hand to add it to your favourite dishes. The best part of basils is that they do not need to be crushed or touched to bring out that smell from them. They give out the scent oh so naturally making the mosquitoes run for their life.
Another name of Citrosum is “Mosquito repellent plant” so you can obviously guess that these plants would be the up in the game of mosquito repelling. But they are not as effective as hyped about. Although rubbing the leaves on the skin may provide some help but all the other plants are more effective in that part. Still, these plants can be grown in the garden and would have some effect on the pests.
Therefore by following the above list, you can ignore the chemical filled mosquito repellents and shoo them away from a more natural way to enjoy a peaceful and relaxing space in your garden. Also, avoid keeping standing water around the house, and it would help keep the pests away to a greater extent.
